Okay, there's something I have to get off of my chest. It's the whole religious aspect of life. Now I understand that some folks adopt certain practices and others do not. This is totally fine. My question concerns entertainment such as Christian music groups. I'm a tad confused on what makes them "Christian." I've heard some songs and watched the countless infomercials. It's apparent to me that Christian music is the most popular of religious music. Or at least in the United States anyway. Now, what I'm really confused about is who exactly is purchasing and listening to this new-age genre of tunes?

I know you've seen the infomercials that advertise Christian music groups. Not only have you spotted them while flipping through channels, but you most likely watched them for a few minutes. I say a few minutes because they seem to drag on forever. What gets me is the crowd watching these live concerts. Because the Christian music groups portrayed on infomercials are always live. I suppose they have to be. It's sort of like watching a sermon. People are holding up lighters and crying as they sing along. If I didn't know better, I'd think it was a Michael Jackson concert in some foreign country. Now, you may not know it, but it's likely that you listen to some Christian music groups. For example, did you know Switchfoot was a Christian band? They've certainly had a few big mainstream hits. And then there's P.O.D. Man, who would ever know that this band is one of the Christian music groups? They look more like a metal/alternative rock band. But maybe that's just a facade they use in order to appeal to our nation's youth. Or maybe they're expressing their belief that it's in-style to preach about and believe in God. Not a bad approach if you ask me.

Things are not always as they seem. The cliche Christian music groups you might imagine in your head will not likely be what's out there now days. The word of God has been popularized and has evolved to a whole new mainstream level. The trick is to blend it into modern-day pop culture, and that's what some Christian music groups are currently doing.
